For most of history until the post-covid & “AI” market, the source of your degree/credentials didn’t really matter as long as you could pass a few basic hurdles like a leetcode medium. The egalitarian nature of software engineering was even seen as a big part of its allure back then.

At the peak of “learn to code” mania some people were getting jobs just with bootcamps and online only courses.

I’m interested in people who’ve graduated since from both sides of the coin (UniMelb/Monash/UNSW) vs those who went to all other unis and how they’ve felt the prestige effect their hiring, company tier etc etc. It seems to be playing a much bigger role these days than ever.

There’s no good data on this in Aus yet, but i’m keen to hear what the truth is.
