Some needed background, my periods have never been regular. There was one year of a my life where some of the periods were regular but that stopped after a few months. In September 2025 I had a period that lasted 2 weeks. I hate to say this but this didn't strike me as strange. After my period stopped being regular 2 or 3 week periods were more common than those lasting one week. Then, after those two weeks it stopped. But it came back after a week and was so heavy... I had a hard time standing or walking straight the next morning and left my job early to go the ER as I don't have the money for urgent care (in my area, urgent care doesn't take walk ins and asks for at least $100 up front before even seeing a doctor. ERs don't. I know I was probably wasting people's time because it was just a period but I just couldn't afford it).
The ER did an ultrasound and blood work but a doctor never called for me. I waited for 5 hours for the doctor; myself and my fiance don't drive and use city buses and the one to our apartment complex stops after 9pm. It was already almost noon when I arrived there. By the time my fiance and I decided to leave, there were only a couple of hours left and I just wanted to be comfortable at home instead of the hard plastic chairs of the ER; my fiance also hadn't eaten all day because we didn't have ER food kinds of money and I didn't want him making himself sick with hunger. So we just left. That period lasted three months and by the time I went to a Gyno, I was so exhausted it was all I could do to not immediately fall asleep when I'd get from work every day. Some days I legitimately didn't even have the energy to eat. They Gyno put me on something that reset my cycle and it's been my kind of normal since. Until the period I have now.
This is already week two. I had a week straight of regular semi-light period bleeding and spotting. But now it is so heavy. There have been multiple days where I struggle to keep my head up and my eyes focused. I feel kind of weak, I've had multiple cases of feeling sick to my stomach, the cramps are all over my belly, I feel blood gush from me almost every time I stand up, and I have passed at least 10-15 large blood clots. If we count all the tiny ones, the number is probably approaching or past thirty. So my question is: is this normal for PCOS and will it go away? Medicine barely takes the pain away for half an hour and the amount of blood loss makes me kind of scared. Any advice is appreciated...
