My business partner and I are looking to take on more clients.

She's a very experienced Google & Meta Ads specialist, and I work in design and animation and handle the creative part. We also work with a few creators that do UGCs.

We currently manage a few accounts, with some spending around £15k/month on ads, although some of them started with much smaller budgets.
For one of our clients, we scaled their Meta account from 0 to around £30k month in revenue within a year. The scale focused mainly on new customer acquisition. Growth was fast but also steady in order to stay within the efficiency ratio the client gave us, which was a 2.5 ROAS target.

We mainly work with small to medium-sized businesses.

I've been wanting to take the leap and become a freelancer for a year now but don't know how to get clients.

For context I have my full-time job as a 3D Motion Designer and have one client on the side. My question towards the people that are working as a freelancers and constantly getting booked: How do you get clients? Do you just email people with your work and hope they contact you? I assume most of the time is a word of mouth kind of thing? Any tips and tricks would be appreciated!
