Accepting J-1 research fellowship on a Skilled Worker Visa (Indian citizen

Hello,

I am an Indian citizen working as a university lecturer on a Skilled Worker visa (SOC code 2311). I have received a 2-month research fellowship with funding (around USD 10K) at an Ivy League University to consult archives related to the academic book I am writing (It is classified as private research). I had to ask if accepting this fellowship and going to the US for two months will violate my Skilled Worker visa status or complicate any future ILR application (under current rules, I will be eligible to apply in 2028)? I plan to go next semester, when I am on authorized to be on research leave, and will continue to receive my salary during this period. I will be paying taxes both in the US and the UK on the fellowship funding (though I may receive a refund subject to the US/UK taxation treaty).

I have written to my university‘s HR compliance team. (they are very slow to respond) and will also consult an immigration specialist, but would like to hear from anyone on the sub who applied for the J-1 Visa while being a skilled worker/academic staff in the UK on a skilled worker visa. Thank you.
