Unpaid Overtime Nanny
Location: Ohio
Do I potentially have a strong overtime/wage case as a household employee?
I worked as a nanny/family manager for a private family for about 2 years. My written contract specifically stated overtime would be paid for hours worked over 40/week, but I regularly worked far beyond that and was never properly paid overtime.
I was required to do overnight stays and extended stretches while the family traveled, including multi-day periods where I remained responsible for the household and children. I was never classified as a live-in employee, and I have documentation showing the overnight stays were required.
I also recently found emails discussing W-2/payroll handling and self-employment taxes that apparently were never properly handled either.
I have contracts, schedules, payment records, emails, and written communications documenting all of this. Based on preliminary calculations, I believe I may be owed roughly $15k–$20k+ or more in unpaid overtime alone.
Does this sound like something with legitimate legal grounds?
