Why did the Nazis feed their victims?

The idea behind the Shoah was to be rid of undesirables such as Jews, Roma, Slavs, etc. I understand why they fed those who worked (because otherwise, they's die of starvation, which makes slave labour difficult), but what was the purpose of providing even what minimal rations they provided to those who were just going to be fed to the (often literal) fires?

Its clear they didnt have any issues with starvation, both based on the lack of adequate food when prisoners were fed, and the fact that thry often weren't fed during transport (resulting in starvation deaths anyway).

It seems like the easiest way to deal with their victims would just be to stop feeding (or providing water) entirely, then using prisoners they fed (like Sonderkommandos) to deal with the corpses.

So what was the thinking behind their providing even minimal food to their victims?

Anyone gotten any interesting (or weird) nicknames deom their students?

I have a student who calls me "Fish." No idea why. Doesn't sound like my name, has never come up (in class or otherwise), and I'm not even sure she knows what it means.

*from... stupid autocorrect and.lack of attention-paying skills.
