Has anyone ever tried made to measure clothing?

I have a black tie event coming up. I want to get a full black skirt made. Made because I'm freakishly tall.

I've googled a lot, a few options that have popped up look good. One an etsy seller, who asks for waist and length. Reasonably priced too.

I realise with anything there is a risk. Mum can sew but this also looks like an attractive option.
