Quick Update on my new FNIRSI SWM-20

Update to this post as images are not allowed in replies: https://www.reddit.com/r/18650masterrace/comments/1sm2vsg/new_toy_fnirsi_swm20/

I've just given this a quick test with the nickel strip that it came with.

It's a roll of (maybe 3 or 5 metres, I haven't unrolled it) 10*0.1mm and I believe it's nickel, not plated - no sparks when I did my usual test of using my Dremel on it and I've got a strip in salt water now to confirm, so I'll update later...

The default settings were woeful but I've bumped up the power, which is just extending the pulse time. This goes to 99 (which is 9 times 11!!) and the weld in the picture was at 80ms with 2 pulses and a pre-heat of 5ms.

Clearly this is nowhere close to the kWeld which actually measures the energy put into the weld, but it's adequate for the stuff that I need to do when I'm out & about.

I'll test it later with some different settings and 0.2mm nickel (the thickest I tend to use) and report back.

This cost me £44 delivered from China and I think it's a bargain, certainly compared to the first USB welder I bought some years ago from Amazon, which was more expensive and not configurable - I had to send that back.

New Toy - FNIRSI SWM-20

I've already got a kWeld with all the goodies that I use to build serious battery packs but it's a lot of gear to travel with.

I sometimes need to build small, disposable battery packs with regular AAs so I've bought one of these things to take with me.

I've previously bought FNIRSI's battery resistance tester and know that they make very nice kit so I'm quite excited to try this bad boy out...
