What’s a tonality that you struggled with at some point in your development?

I’m curious what took you forever to get a grip on? I saw a Noel Johnston clip where he said, “nobody ever seems to know what to do on diminished.” I remember thinking, oh good I’m not alone lol 😂

So for me I struggled with diminished, minor 7b5, and Lydian dominant. I’m much more confident with all three now. But it took a lot of work, seemingly much more than some other things.

What was your Achilles heel of Jazz?

This video focuses on strengthening our ability to play the individual chords that we are trying to switch between. Often times we build a chord one finger at a time, and we get comfortable with that, but maybe do y improve. This technique helps us develop that same confidence with our other fingers so they can move to the chord all at once, instead of one by one.

Hope this is helpful! let me know how this works for you, and if you have others tips!

I’ve been teaching guitar for about 25 years. I find that this is a very common issue that comes up in lessons. Being aware of tension in our bodies is useful at all skill levels.

Hopefully someone finds this helpful! Let me know in the comments!

Happy playing everyone!
