Bisque fired vase

I’ve made a handful of these porcelain vases in this semester’s pottery class. I don’t know how I’ll glaze all of them, but definitely the largest vases I’ve made.

These are slip cast, which isn’t quite as fun as wheel throwing and trimming, but it’s pretty satisfying to pop out a vase after 30 minutes so that’s something.

A new jar

A new jar shape, and kind of a tough one for me to throw. I’ve been making a lot of slipcast pieces for my ceramics class lately, and it’s a cool process but not as fun as throwing on the wheel.

I’ve been struggling to throw this two-tiered round bottom shape, both in jars like this and in bowls. The lower section is always too small, and to help myself visualize the shape I’m going for I decided to model a ton of shapes as 3D models. A few of these were then printed on my 3D printer to help serve as a model while I’m throwing. Probably overkill and not a process I think makes sense for most people, but I found it helpful for shapes that i can draw but can’t quite get right when I’m on the wheel.

So here’s my first attempt at throwing this shape after looking at the model. It’s not perfect, but closer to what I envisioned than some of my earlier pieces.

I live in Southern California and have subscribed to Verve’s Latin American coffee for a year or two now. I like the coffee, but they’ve raised their prices and am getting frustrated at regularly spending $26 for a bag that retails for $23.

I go through one 12oz bag every three weeks or so. Can anyone recommend some other light roast Latin American subscription options that are slightly cheaper? Doesn’t necessarily have to be Latin American, but I don’t typically like coffees that are super acidic or floral.

Thank you!
