A recent post in here made me question where NC law stands. I tried to google it and the AI answers all seemed to contradict to me what they were stating was the wording of the law?!?!
The law clearly states that righ turning vehicles should stay in the right lane. However, the wording seems to indicate to me that while you should turn left FROM the left-most lane, once in the intersection you could choose any of the available lanes to turn INTO provided there aren't mulitple left-turning lanes (which would usually have dotted white lines indicating each lane's path)? Here is the wording:
"When turning left at an intersection, drivers must approach in the extreme left-hand lane that is lawfully available for traffic moving in the same direction. After entering the intersection, the left turn should be made to leave the intersection in a lane that is also lawfully available for traffic"
That to me would mean exiting the intersection would be ok in any of the lanes traveling in that same direction on that road! However, the AI assistant in google keeps saying "so yeah you must turn INTO the left-most lane" but i'm not seeing how that intrepretation meshes with the wording of the law text above. Can someone explain this to me?
