I have a slightly unusual use for macrophotography: I'm an artist developing a work in which I want to capture video of a person's face in extreme close up, ideally 5mm x 5mm or less. The camera will be mounted on a robot arm and must be at least 40cm from the face for safety reasons. I have a Sony A7 but at the moment I'm looking to rig up a cheap prototype for testing. I tried a 30x Telephoto lens but it can't focus unless it's at least 220cm from the subject.
What approach would you recommend?
