Hello, I am a commercial plumber who doesn’t mess with residential stuff much. Fixing some plumbing in my house and found the last guy wreaked havoc on the studs when he ran a pipe through them. One is so damaged I can’t even install a stud shoe on it. My question is, I need to pass inspection on this wall, do I need to run full length studs or will a 3’ sister be enough?

Thank you.

Hello everyone,

1950 house Oklahoma

I am licensed plumber trying to repair some plumbing in my house. As part of that process I need to cut a small (probably like 8”x12”) hole in the Sheetrock to access a pipe.

I did an asbestos test on the Sheetrock. When I tested the center of the board the result was negative. I tested a corner piece tho to make sure I got some of the joint compound and it came back 3% Chrysotile.

I’m not cutting a corner piece but am trying to take precautions because I don’t know where all the joint compound is. I plan on laying down plastic, cutting the Sheetrock with a hobby knife while spraying it with water and wearing a respirator and tyvek.

Does this sound like a reasonable, safe, way to handle this?
