Question about specificity of USB-C connector
Hey yall, friend of mine asked me to replace the usb C connector on his Lenovo thinkpad E490.
This ain’t my first rodeo. I popped off the back cover and it was mangled. I think he had dropped it at one point. He took it to his IT department and they told him they don’t have the tools for it. Fortunately I do. I clipped off the connector and it looks like the row of surface mount pins are intact. There a black plastic piece where the through hole pins are that was firmly in there. I opted to wait and do more research as I was just diagnosing and not removing. My hakko desoldering gun should make quick work of those through hole pins once I mix in some leaded solder so I’m not too concerned.
However I have not seen a usb-C with through hole for data and voltage lines, just ground. Based off the specs of the laptop (also attached) I’m going to need at 24 pin connector, which I’m fine with. But I’m not sure what the wording is when it has these through hole pins.
I’d prefer to buy it off like DigiKey since I need to order some supplies anyway, but I can always buy it OEM on amazon for a stupid markup lol.
Any insight would be appreciated
