I'm 3 years post op ACL reconstruction on my right knee, using hamstring graft and LET. Tore it whilst playing football, knee hyperextended too far, off the ball. Rehab went really well, 0 issues and fully trust the knee again. Got it done via NHS.

I'm 8 weeks out from tearing my left ACL and MCL, this was a tackle and have been told there was nothing I could have done to avoid it. Freak accident. I'm going private as NHS is 2 years before I can get surgery done. Seen my surgeon yesterday, he's offered me either patella graft or go with hamstring.

Thought process for using hamstring is why not since it seemed to work so well last time. However I'm concerned about weakening both of my hamstrings.

Patella is seen as golden standard for athletes and I do want to return to sports again. My surgeon said if it were my first ACL injury he'd recommend patella but since hamstring went so well he says it's still an option.

I guess my question is, for those who tore their ACL in their other knee, did you opt for same graft or go for something different?
