Bass advice please help

I wanted to start playing bass for quite some time now, and i will finally be buing one soon. Thing is, I want to buy a bass that i will be able to use for most genres and for it to be high quality, so that I won't have to buy another one for the forseeable future. After some research, I decided on the Yamaha TRBX 504, but I am now considering buing the 5 string version of it. I know that it has a much steeper learning curve than a regular bass, but I believe that I will be able to get through it, especially because i will have a lot of free time very soon. I like metal music, and I'm pretty sure that some songs i would like to learn require a 5 string bass, and as I said before, I want this bass to be the only one i need. So, essentialy, my question is whether is't worth to buy a 5 string, or will it only make it harder for me to learn (i never played a bass before). Alternatively, would thicker strings do the trick?
