Hey everyone,

I’m a food content creator mainly shooting short-form cooking videos (Reels/TikTok/Shorts). My style is mostly top-down cooking, showing the full pan, ingredients, and textures (noodles, steak, sauces, etc.). I don’t really do talking or face cam. the food is the main focus.

I’m currently shooting on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, but looking to upgrade. My setup is a small home studio, so space is a bit limited.

I’m deciding between the Sony ZV-E1 and FX30, with a budget around $2,000–$3,000. Here’s what matters most to me:

  • Food texture and detail (making it look as appetizing as possible)
  • Keeping most of the frame in focus (not too much background blur)
  • Top-down shots (full pan + hand movement)
  • Strong, vibrant colors — especially reds/orange tones.
  • A slightly “premium” look rather than just cinematic blur
  • Reliable for longer cooking sessions(2-3 hours)

Color grading isn’t a big concern for me — I’m willing to learn and adjust in post.
What I really care about is getting rich, vibrant colors and making food look glossy, deep, and appetizing (similar to high-end food content).

For this kind of food content, which would you recommend and why?

Also, what lens would you pair with it for top-down cooking videos?

Thanks!
