things I’d love to see on campus
I feel that Edmonton can be so gray and just sad feeling especially at the end of winter. I’d love to see more whimsy / practical things on campus and here’s some suggestions that I thought of :)
- projector times in exam halls! the excel centre in London does this well, can be helpful in the gyms and the butterdome
- more murals/painted walls themed to that building or faculty! I’d love the patterned floor in CCIS be extended to L1 & L2 and have murals in the hallways down in L2
- more whimsy merch! I saw MCD Biologys crewnecks and I like the new engineering ones too! some muted colours, designs that match equipment/teaching per department, more day to day stuff that is made by students for students
- plants!!! Alberta has so many natural plants and the colours inside could be lovely to brighten up the space
- study bubbles on the quad! or more study spaces close to windows, it’s so nice to have fresher air or at least more sunlight
- more varied study spaces, I love that there’s spots with simple chairs & tables but I’d love to see more places like the chill room or single person study spots (moveable cushions/small desks maybe?). I’d love to see places to hangout with friends on campus without having to study or disturbing others or having to take up the bigger tables in libraries
- more stories about fellow students & sports! I love our sport programs (and omg they are at least top 10 in Canada for basically every single sport, yall are goated) but I’d love to see fun facts about the athletes! Do they like pineapple on pizza? Do they practice any superstitions? I’d love there to be a place that features various students every week, statistics/records that are being broken or ones that our alumni hold! There’s so much to learn about sports even if you aren’t a sports person, seeing the community take pride in it together is amazing (also the media presence in major leagues and media like heated rivalry is so cool). Sports are for everyone!
- little notes on the large tables in libraries to “please leave me be“, “up to chat but study”, ”introduce yourself” etc. to promote the awareness of those around us and also to make more friends!
I’m so happy to talk about this further and I’d love to hear your ideas too!
I just wish that campus felt more tight knit, I know a lot of people commute but I think more can be done
