Update: video of the slop. https://imgur.com/a/4iEwwCx
This is the hallway door to an 20 year old condo. It’s the kind where you turn the inner handle and the deadbolt retracts (mortise?)The outside handle is loose, and I want to tighten it. There are two holes and a small divot on the inside and outside handles, no screws. the divot doesn’t seem to go inside. I’ve tried the obvious, pressing in with an Allen wrench and wiggling the handle. I’ve tried every all angles and combinations one man can: pressing both on the outside, both on the inside, one of each. No dice. I tried wiggling the inside collar. I’ve pushed soft, hard, pulled and pushed, talked to it, tried to reason with it But no click. I’ve watched a dozen videos and turned to ChatGPT, but they just told me how amazing I was at not being able to get the handle off. I removed the big back plate, and when no obvious solution presented itself, I put it back on for fear of doing more damage. I thought I was handy. Please, I want to be able to look my wife in the eyes again. Thanks!
