Does anyone know what Diana Aragon thought of Wake up dead when it came out?

I wonder if she went off on Dave for claiming he was cheating in the song lol, I’m genuinely curious

Alright, you asked for it. Track by track, Who’s WORSE?

You asked for it, and I subjected myself to listening to both of these albums you wanted to compare. RISK VERSUS ST. ANGER.

Disclaimer: This is all my observations. I love both bands immensely, so picking them apart will be fun.

My Scale ranges from 1 (absolutely terrible) something like blood on the dancefloor, Emmure, Wasp, or something totally shameful to the history of music

to 10, being something that is impeccable and stands the test of time, think something like Dark Side of The Moon, Rust in Peace, Abbey Road, etc.

scoreboard goes: S-R

here we go:

  1. Frantic (4.5/10) Vs. Insomnia (4/10) Frantic doesn’t have a solo but the chorus is at least tolerable.

S: 1, R: 0

  1. St. Anger (4/10) Vs. Prince of Darkness (6.5/10) Prince Of Darkness actually has a pretty good build up and the solo is pretty good if I do say so.

S: 1, R: 1

  1. Some Kind Of Monster (3.5/10) Vs. Enter The Arena (2/10) Some Kind of Monster sucks. Enter The Arena is just incomprehensible, why doesn’t the buildup fade into Crush ‘Em? what was the point?

S: 2, R: 1

  1. Dirty Window (2/10) Vs. Crush Em (4/10) I can tolerate Crush Em FAR easier than the horrendous mixing on Dirty Window. God that song sucks!

S: 2, R: 2

  1. Invisible Kid (3/10) Vs. Breadline (4.5/10) The lighter touch into hard rock and the late 90’s style Aerosmith vibe I get kinda makes it marginally tolerable, overall I think the lyrics are generic. Invisible Kid’s lyrics are Genuinely stupid.

S: 2, R: 3

  1. My World (2.5/10) Vs. The Doctor is Calling (3/10) Both songs suck. The Doctor Is Calling gets a slight edge on the basis that the guitar work is marginally better here.

S: 2, R: 4

  1. Shoot Me Again (1/10) Vs. I’ll Be There (4/10) Okay. This comparison is unfair. Shoot Me Again fucking sucks. I‘ll be there isn’t anything special, it’s just a slightly generic love and support song, it’s tolerable though.

S: 2, R: 5

  1. Sweet Amber (4.5/10) Vs Wanderlust (5.5/10) Sweet Amber finally sounds competent, the pace isn’t bad, obviously this song is a D tier Metallica song at best. Wanderlust has a nice country power Ballad style structure, it just drags a little longer than it needed to imo.

S: 2, R: 6

  1. The Unnamed Feeling (5/10) Vs. Ecstasy (4/10) The drum track in Ecstasy is mixed better, and the beat is steady, it just feels like it’s building to something that doesn’t appear. The Unnamed Feeling imo is actually a decent song, arguably the best song on St. Anger.

S: 3, R: 6

  1. Purify (1.5/10) Vs. Seven (4.5/10) The divide couldn’t be bigger between these two songs. Purify is awful, Seven has a solid guitar buildup and solo. Easy choice.

S: 3, R: 7

  1. All Within My Hands (1.5/10) Vs. Time Beginning/End (4/10) All Within My Hands is one of the single worst songs Metallica has ever made. Time at least shows flashes of Dave and Marty doing something enjoyable on guitar.

Total: St. Anger 3/Risk: 8

I have a controversial take

Listening to both Risk and TWNAH, I came to a conclusion:

Risk has still has some bad songs (maybe 2-3); but in general, I don’t think it’s actually a bad piece of music. Now; compared to the REST of what Megadeth‘s made in their 40+ years, it’s at the bottom, but as an attempt at something different, I think it’s extremely overhated because the same band made such opuses as Rust In Peace or Peace Sells. Maybe it’s bad as a Megadeth Album, but it’s not bad as a rock album.

The World Needs a Hero is a different story. It sounds like a watered down equivalent to their past catalogue, which honestly comes off as a worse album to me. It has the makings of trying to return to their golden years and it falls short on more than a few occasions. Is it awful? Not really, it just feels very lackluster when you realize that this was supposed to be Dave trying to return to what made them famous originally.

The more I think about it, this song describes Dave Mustaine down to a T

I’m 90% sure Jack Black wrote ‘Legend of the Rent’ from School of Rock about Dave Mustaine 😂😂 if you really look at the lyrics, isn’t it spot on? Dewey Finn was also a lead guitarist who got kicked out with no warning or a second chance and he went back to struggle at paying the rent!

In the end of time
There was a man
Who knew the road
And the writing
Was written on the stone

In the ancient time
An artist led the way
But no one
Seemed to understand

In his heart he knew
The artist must be true
But the legend of the rent
Was way past due

Well, you think you'll be just fine
Without me, but you're mine
You think you can
Kick me out of the band

Well, there's just one problem there
The band is mine
How can you kick me out
Of what is mine ?

Well, you're not hardcore
(No, you're not hardcore)
Unless you live hardc...
(Unless you live hardcore)
But the legend of the rent
Was way hardcore
