Thoughts on PMT/PKB tournaments?

I just did my first PMT (Point Muay Thai) match this weekend and won. I’ve been training for 3 years so I thought I might as well compete at least once. It was a fun experience and I’m proud of getting out there in front of a bunch of people, but I feel like it wasn’t as cool as I thought it was going to be. It even feels corny for me to say I won a fight because essentially it’s just hard sparring with limitations on what you’re allowed and not allowed to do.

What are your thoughts on these types of tournaments? I’ve heard mixed reviews, but it seems like they get a lot of negative criticism.

I’m 29, so I don’t have plans to become some badass pro fighter (I have no chance at that anyways). It would be cool to do an amateur match. But all these nerves and hype for my first PMT match seemed so pointless looking back now.
