Surveying thoughts on a digital card game concept

The Gameplay Loop

I’ve been really into a fan-made game called Chaotic Rewind. To sum it up, the game works like this: instead of opening packs, it's a web-based experience where you start with a beginner deck. To get additional cards, you use a map to travel to specific locations (using Location cards from your collection). You wait a set amount of time and then receive a new card based on that location’s lore whether it's a new monster, location, or magic card. Gameplay takes place through an online simulator linked to your account. There are also quests and items that reward you with new cards. I really like the idea of building a loop like this. It creates an interesting experience where you can’t immediately build an "optimal" deck, forcing you to play with what you have. It feels like a mix of a "limited" format and an RPG, which is more satisfying than opening packs because you have some control over what you get based on where you go.

Unique Card Stats

To take this further, how do you feel about the same cards having different stats and abilities? They wouldn't be completely different, but cards could have a randomly generated range for Attack, Defense, costs, and effects. Everything would stay within a specific range so it isn't entirely random, but it would innovate on the Chaotic TCG idea of cards being unique (which works much better in a digital format than a physical one)

Thoughts on Recolors?

Does "recoloring" bother anyone? Similar to the Bakugan TCG, where they recolored different cards and changed backgrounds to save on art costs.

Optimization vs. Limited Play

Lastly, does the player's drive for "optimization" ruin this concept? Will players be so focused on trying to get the "best" stuff that a limited playstyle like this wouldn't work?

Random Draft League CHAMPIONS: Seeking Coaches for upcoming season (Singles & VGC)

RDL Champions!

Hello everyone! I’m the owner and commissioner of the RDL (Random Draft League).

As the title suggests, the biggest twist in this league is the draft board: 151 randomly generated Pokémon. This gimmick moves the league away from standard meta picks and encourages more creativity when building your team.

This season, the format will be NatDex Champions. All the new Megas and balance changes from Pokémon Champions will be added to National Dex!

Along with the draft board being randomized, there will be a Randomized Gacha system. Every week, you'll be able to randomize one Pokémon on your roster for a new random mon either completely randomized or within the same type (your choice)
