Rain garden - do you sheet mulch?

SE Michigan here. I’m Going to be building a ~300 sq ft rain garden with about 150 sq ft sloping towards a deeper, 150 sq ft basin. This is to better drain around our foundation by directing surface water towards the deeper basin for infiltration.

I’ve used the cardboard sheet mulching method in other native beds but I’m a bit concerned about using it for this project as it may hinder infiltration and create pooling? Does this sub recommend using cardboard sheet mulching method for rain garden?

Experienced advice requested! Thank you!!
