Hey everyone,

I’m 23 and based in the Netherlands, and I want to seriously pursue a career in sales. I have a bit of light experience working in retail and I’ve done some self-education (mostly YouTube, books, etc.), but I fully understand that I’m still a complete beginner.

What I do have is a strong motivation to get really good at sales as a skill. I’m not looking for shortcuts, I know it’s a hard road, and I’m ready to put in the work.

My question is:

What type of sales role would you recommend starting with if my main goal is to build strong fundamentals and become highly skilled over time?

Some things I’m curious about:

- Is it better to start in something like SDR/ BDR roles, retail, or D2D?

- Are there specific industries (in Western Europe) that are better for beginners (SaaS, recruitment, insurance, etc.)?

- Any mistakes you see beginners like me making that I should avoid?

I’d really appreciate any advice or direction from people who’ve been through this. Thanks in advance 🙏
