Hi everyone,

I’m an academic researcher looking into sports diplomacy and marketing, specifically how international sporting success affects a country’s "National Brand."

Central Asia is a fascinating case for this. It’s undoubtedly one of the dark horses in the world of sports. Whether it’s Kazakhstan’s dominance in boxing, Kyrgyzstan’s rise in wrestling, or Uzbekistan’s recent success in football and the Olympics, sports seem to be a huge part of how the region projects itself to the world.

I am investigating the "National Halo" Effect: the idea that when we support or admire a foreign national team, we subconsciously start to view that country’s products, tourism, and even its politics more favorably.
