The anime make it so their comfortability around eachother much more natural, Mao Mao still get defensive around Jinshi but they feel more like 2 close friends that is comfortable in close proximity to eachother despite bickering all the time. The manga kinda doesn't have this in a lot of scene. Which make them feel less natural, especially at this specific point in the story, after all the time the 2 have spent around eachother and the life and death situations they have been through together, you would think they'd be less robotic with physical touch.
