Replacement for Solomon X-Ultra Pioneer
It's time to replace my 2 year old Solomon X-Ultra Pioneer. I wear these hiking shoes for daily, summer hiking in the Northeast (US - Maine) so the trail surface is exposed roots, granite, often wet rugged terrain. These shoes have served me well for these purposes. I ordered a pair of Solomon X Ultra 360 to replace these but had to send them back because I just don't like the lacing system - I also found this to be much stiffer and 'chunkier' than the X-Ultra Pioneers. This lacing system seems to be on all Solomon footwear, so I'm looking for an alternative. Trail runners rip too easily on this terrain (learned the hard way on two different pairs of trail runners), so I am leaning towards a hiking shoe rather than trail runners but I'm open to trail runner options if they can resist tearing on exposed roots. I need maximum grip, toe and heel protection, and I would say 'medium' stiffness. I don't love the feel of heavy duty hiking shoes in the summer. I'm currently looking at the On Cloudrock Low Waterproof Hiking Shoes, but I'm wondering if there are other recommendations for my situation. Other information - I hike about 20-30 miles per week for speed and I sometimes wear a weighted vest but I don't run and I don't plan to properly backpack with these hiking shoes. I don't need waterproofing but it they are waterproof, I see that as a plus.
