Potentially starting self employment
Sorry, bit of a rambling post.
Thinking of going self employed need some advice.
I've been in the game since 2003. Fully qualified with 2391 and sssts. Experience in commercial fit outs, small industrial and domestic works.
I've most recently been working as a site supervisor for a company that does commercial fit outs mainly in London ( I live in Surrey). I am paid a decent hourly rate for my time on site but am travelling 3 hours per day for free.
I'm constantly under pressure as the company never provide enough labour on the jobs so I'll be doing the majority of work myself alongside supervision duties (paperwork etc). I find juggling it all, alongside being a parent quite stressful.
Due to the long days I've been turning down private work over the past 3 years as I didn't have the time so basically I have no contacts whatsoever.
How can I get my name back out there to start getting calls again? How do you come about work? I've looked into checkatrade but it seems really expensive for no guaranteed jobs.
Also, with my experience in the commercial side of things, how do you go about getting those sort of jobs? Just approaching main contractors?
I earned 56k as an employee last financial year and think that isn't out of the question as a self employed electrician working locally. Is that correct?
