To share some context I completed FTO and worked solo patrol, but during probation I had officer safety-related issues tied to two instances of concern about hesitation prior to a use of force and searching(not finding a weapon on someone). I was put on a pip and asked to resign or demote so I continued as a reserve officer to work through those issues. It’s been a year and I feel ready to go full time again. Since there isn’t a spot where I am, I’ve applied elsewhere.

As a reserve I improved and gained confidence in my abilities through more experience and exposure.

I’ve had several oral boards recently but haven’t been selected. I feel like I sometimes overcorrect in interviews by taking too much ownership to the point where I undersell myself instead of properly showing growth.

I recently had to resign from my reserve position due to my lack of availability to work due to my current full time job. It was sooner than I wanted as I’m still in the application process.

How would you recommend discussing past mistakes and recent resignation while still presenting confidence and growth professionally?

Appreciate any input.
