For reference my friend’s family is well connected and funded. We decided a year ago to start a home improvement company with their dad’s help along with our previous boss as a partner. My friend and I are the same age and do mostly the same things and will have a pretty similar involvement in the company. I just found out that the ownership was split at 35% each for my friend and his father, 25% for my previous boss ( who will have little to no involvement in anything) and finally the remaining 5% for me. They treat me like family and I like to think of my friend and I as being equal, but I don’t feel that way with the current situation. I understand that his father is funding the lawyers and some equipment I was just not expecting his son ( my friend ) to get a 35% too 5% ratio of ownership. My friend and I will be the only ones taking salary and most likely getting company vehicles. The business is set up for distributions and I feel like I’m being heavily left out when it comes to that aspect. My friend definitely isn’t complaining about having way more and almost seems cocky about it. It’s turning into a good gig along with some good benefits, I personally feel a little betrayed and maybe having some ego issues with my friend making more money for the same amount of work. I’m Not sure how to feel about the situation, I don’t want to seem greedy or ungrateful but I don’t feel like it’s a fair play. But then again the benefits are good and 5% of something is better than nothing. Anyone with experience please let me know your thoughts.
