Had a job interview on Monday of this week. Now It's been a minute since I've been in the job market, but am I crazy to think that this is sort of wild ask from a potential employer in the second round of an interview? unpaid and due at the end of the week. I'm getting red flag energy, but maybe this is the new standard??

Project Assignment — Video Content Producer

For this project, we want to see your creative interpretation of the __________ brand through original video.

The ask

Create a brand video for __________ in two cuts — one wide format (16:9) for YouTube and website, and one vertical format (9:16) for social. Length, shot selection, and whether the cuts differ beyond format are entirely up to you — but keep in mind the platform and audience you're creating each for.

You may approach this however you think best. There is intentionally limited direction provided. We're interested in seeing how you interpret the brand and approach storytelling with minimal guidance.

The only hard requirements:

• Every frame must be original footage shot specifically for this project
• No stock video, no AI-generated footage, no clips from our YouTube channel, no footage previously shot for other projects
• No exceptions on this — if we recognize a shot, it doesn't qualify

Please note that we're unable to accommodate filming requests inside of our office, but you're welcome to use stand-ins for __________ team members you'd like to feature.

What we're looking for

This is a creative assignment first. Technical polish matters, but how you interpret and communicate this brand carries the most weight in how we evaluate the work.
