Employer Separation Package Questions
I've worked for this company 17 years and things have gotten hostile, to the point they demanded I quit today. I said no, offer me a separation package which they countered with telling me to submit a separation package request for them to consider. they have dealt treacherously with long time employees, so when they demanded I quit, I knew exactly why.... trying to avoid their legal responsibilities as best as possible.
BC employment law states I am entitled to 8 weeks' pay while employment law firm tools say from 14 to 17 months. 17 months sounds good, but since this is a mom-and-pop company who are struggling right now (the shop is, they're very wealthy) and I'm sure anything like that would be rejected immediately. on the flip side, I want to be gone and done with this and the stress it's causing.
this is basically my first and only job I've ever had...so I've got no idea on how to put something like this together. any advice would be appreciated.
