Hi, I’m a bit out of my depth here, so I’d really appreciate any advice. I have an older apartment door with a mortise lock (photos attached). The handle is loose and pretty worn.

I’d like to upgrade to a smart lock, and I’m trying to understand what makes the most sense in my situation. I’ve read about either replacing the mortise entirely or adding a separate smart deadbolt above it. Drilling is allowed.

I’m looking for something reliable that won’t cause headaches if I need to manage access remotely.

I am located on the US. Any guidance would really help !!

Edit : yes I’m talking to / looking for a locksmith and not planning to touch anything myself
