[5 YoE, Graduate student, Research/Data Science, USA]

Hello all,

First time posting here. I am a PhD student due to graduate this year and I'm looking for the next step in my career. I am targeting research scientist, staff scientist, or research heavy data scientist roles. I don't want to continue down the traditional academic postdoc-PI pipeline, but I am hoping to find a fit that's not too far removed from science and research. I'm planning to send a version of this out to some recruiters that I've identified. Any suggestions are welcome, especially with regards to how I should present myself and whether I should rethink the roles I'm targeting. It's been a struggle to land interviews these days; I had one big interview at a nonprofit research institute but unfortunately I didn't get the job. Seems like I am only getting attention from PIs hiring postdocs. If breaking loose from the traditional academic track is not in the cards for me, I can focus targeting postdoc positions, but I'm holding onto hope that a more stable career isn't a pipe dream. I know the job market is tough but I want to make sure it's not my resume.
