IELTS RESULTS WITHHELD PERMANENTLY
I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.
I gave my IELTS pen-and-paper exam on March 7, 2026 in Canada. My result was supposed to come on March 20, but instead I received an email saying my result was under investigation. I waited almost TWO MONTHS in extreme stress, constantly calling the test centre and British Council, and today I finally received the outcome:
“Result permanently withheld.”
I am completely shattered because I genuinely did NOT cheat. I prepared for almost 3 months for this exam. I’ve taken IELTS before multiple times and have always scored well (usually around 7/7/8/8 or 8/8/8/7 bands). I never had any issue in the past.
What hurts even more is that just last week, when I called frustrated and asked if I should rebook another test, one of the staff members literally hinted to me that my scores were “really, really good.” So I kept hoping all this waiting would finally end positively.
Meanwhile, my Express Entry profile expired because my old IELTS expired while I was waiting for this result.
The worst part is the silence and lack of explanation. They just say the result is “not a reliable indicator” and refuse to give any details due to “test security.”
I also know many other candidates from March 7 were under investigation too, so this felt like a mass review situation.
Has anyone here gone through a permanent withholding and appealed successfully? Did anyone receive any actual explanation? I genuinely feel helpless because I know how hard I worked for this exam and I know my scores would have reflected that.
Any advice or shared experiences would really help right now.
