Alkaline water lets me drink again

I'm on day 9 after my tonsillectomy, and for the past 2 days drinking water has been pure agony. The general pain has actually gone down from days 4-6, but while water and ice used to be my best friends, now they put me in so much pain, it feels like chicken bones are stuck sideways in my throat. I'm still on regular tylenol/ibuprofen/oxycodone, with Zofran for the nausea from the oxy and docusate sodium for constipation.

My diet has shifted pretty dramatically, for the first few days it was cold & liquids (ice pops, ice cubes, cooled soup, lukewarm Cream of Wheat with a lot of milk), now warm and semi-solid soft foods go down easier (eggs, cheese, pasta, bananas, cooked veggies, moist sponge cake). Throat Coat tea and Ricolas with the gel center have been helping a ton during this stretch to soothe my throat.

I need water obviously though, so I've taken to gulping it really fast and then holding on as the pain rolled in, but I definitely have not been drinking as much as I should be because of how hard it is.

I found out that my local Kroger has Alkaline water, so I figured why not, it's worth a shot, and... no pain! I can drink it normally and it doesn't bother my throat at all! I guess regular water is acidic enough to irritate my throat, but this goes down so easy. So if someone else is going through a similar situation, try picking up some, it can't hurt worse right? 🙃

I hope this helps other people going through this!
