DEPRESSION. Maniac Edition of DIE, MY LOVE.
In this adaptation, we see a woman battling postpartum depression.
Jennifer Lawrence delivers an outstanding performance that keeps me engaged throughout the film.
However, I wasn't a fan of the poor music choices.
Many songs are featured during the scenes, from records and radio, and I didn’t care for most of them.
That changed significantly, about 80%, with the selections that I felt reflected Lawrence’s mental state.
At the beginning of the film, she appears hopeless and trapped in deadly boredom, which gradually transforms into severe depression.
As the story progresses, she nears the brink of madness and is eventually committed.
Although you can anticipate the ending of the original story and how things ultimately turn out for her, I still believe the adaptation should have offered a somewhat more positive outlook.
Aside from the mostly disappointing music, another drawback for me was the 4:3 aspect ratio of the film.
After much consideration, I decided to leave it as it is since upscaling to 1.85:1 isn't one of my favorite activities either.
The transfer was made from a 4K print, and the audio format is AC3.
Cut down to 73 minutes.
