Handicapped parking in Texas
Hi, so I live in Texas and was recently cited with a parking ticket for parking in a handicapped parking spot. However, my apartment complex placed the sign while my car was parked there. I called and asked for documentation and they refused to give me any sort of documentation on it. They also did not properly label the space. The sidewalk isn’t painted like the others and there is no indication of towing or citation only arrows. I am wanting to fight this in court because I’m a college student and cannot afford a $500 parking ticket. I would never park in a handicapped parking space if I knew it was going to become one. The apartment complex also did not give notice of putting the space in. I cannot afford a lawyer so if anyone has an legal advice please let me know. I sent an official requesting if documentation email to the complex instead of over the phone to provide to the court and I have pictures of the spaces. I also plan to ask neighbors when they remember the sign going up. I know one neighbor had the police knock on her door and tell her to move her car from the space. Not sure why they didn’t warn me as I was home all day and my car was parked there since the morning.
