Cabin bag fell from overhead bin during flight → MacBook Pro M5 damage (what should I do?)
Hi all,
I wanted to share an experience and get some advice.
I was on a recent flight with Qatar Airways, and my cabin bag(containing MacBook Pro M5) was placed in the overhead compartment. During the flight, another passenger opened the compartment and my bag fell down to the floor.
At the time, everything looked fine externally, but after reaching home I noticed issues with my devices:
• My MacBook Pro has developed small bright spots on the screen that don’t go away after cleaning (seems like internal display damage)
• There is also noticeable audio distortion at higher volumes, which wasn’t there before
I’ve already submitted a claim to the airline and added these details.
Now I’m trying to understand:
• Has anyone had success claiming compensation in similar cases?
• Do airlines usually pay based on repair cost or replacement value?
• Should I get an official Apple repair estimate before they ask?
• Anything I should avoid saying/doing during the claim process?
The MacBook is less than 6 months old, so I’m also thinking to check with Apple, but not sure if this will be covered under warranty since it may be impact-related.
Would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences!
Thanks in advance 🙏
