I searched scientific literature for effects on inositol in perimenopause, as it's a time many of us develop metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. There are not many studies around but what there is sounds encouraging.

I'm 50, still have periods, no history of PCOS. I have heart disease and diabetes in my family history, not personally (yet), but I am overweight and have skin tags. I thought I would give a low dose of inositol (myo/d-chiro at 750 mg) a try and so far I have nothing negative to report but a decrease of food noise and cravings. It's been about a month. I'll take it! I'm not looking to lose the weight from it, stabilizing would be enough.
