Bulk linking mesh data across scenes

I bought and downloaded a crow from VFXGrace, and the download comes with several files. Each file contains a different premade animation but the same mesh data.

I want to combine all of these files into one master file but also optimise it. It makes sense to have only one instance of the crow mesh in this new master file, and have its mesh data linked across all scenes for each of the animations. Problem is, each crow is separated into dozens of separate meshes.

Since I each crow is indentical, an appended crow has all the same layer names, meshes, and textures (even though new ones have .001 and .002, etc. on the end). Is there a way I can quickly link these duplicate datas instead of manually changing the mesh for each layer?
