Hey everyone,

I’m a second-year MBBS student and pretty new to both mutual funds and Reddit, so I thought I’d ask for some guidance here.

A few months back, I started investing small amounts into mutual funds. I get around ₹3000 per month mainly for outside food ( my hostel food is already paid for ), but since I’m dieting and trying to cut down on unnecessary outside eating, I thought instead of spending all of it, I could start putting a portion into investments for the long term.

Right now, I invest around ₹1500 every month. I’m not looking for quick profits or anything unrealistic ; my goal is simply saving some pocket money and building financial discipline .

In the future, during internship, I’ll likely earn around ₹25,000/month, and I plan to increase my investments significantly (possibly around half of it monthly if manageable).

Since I’m still very new to this, I’d really appreciate advice regarding:

- Which types of mutual funds I should focus on

- How many funds are ideal for a beginner SIP portfolio

- Whether index funds are better than actively managed funds for someone like me

- Common beginner mistakes I should avoid

- Any suggestions for long-term investing with small but steadily increasing SIPs

I use Groww for investing and whatever little I invested was from what I heard among friends . But I realise they only have surface level knowledge and very little experience so here I am on reddit :)

Would genuinely appreciate any guidance from experienced investors here. Thanks a lot
