How many times is too many?
I read a book where the FMC main characters passed out every chapter. No lie. In another book, the female went to the hospital (due to being attacked) so many times that it was bordering on frustrating and unbelievable.
So I was making a mental note not to include too much of one thing in a book. I don't mean obvious things, like repeatedly using the same words. I mean using similar events in a way that seems lazy for me in writing.
The thing I'm curious about is, how many times would you consider a similar event to happen in a book to be too many times? Would each event only happen once? Would you decide on a case by case basis? Some things drive the plot, like obviously if the story includes a serial murderer, there are going to be numerous murders.
Just curious here, and there are no wrong answers.
