How much vitamin D is too much?

Between a multivitamin that contains some vitamin D and a separate D supplement, I could be getting as much as 12,000 iu of vitamin D daily. The D supplement contains vitamin K as well; the multivitamin does not. I also take about 400 mg of magnesium daily. Is that too much D? Would I be better off taking the separate D supplement every other day, thus giving me 7000 iu daily? My goal is simply optimal health. Thank you!
