In short: I currently run mint, X11, for years now, but have some strong reasons to give KDE a try, and in my searchings for a distro that would be best for me, I think Kinoite is probably my best option, however I'm concerned about sssstuffff...
(BTW, Don't even think of suggesting kubuntu, snap has bitten me so hard in the arse that I utterly refuse to have anything to do with it! :) :)
See here's the thing, at the core, my pc is a 9950x at 96G ram with an NVidia RTX3060 but I have six monitors and a Huion graphical/visual drawing tablet running on it (which makes it effectively seven monitors), and I also have a Razer Tartarus which I make extensive use of during gaming through input-remapper
Four of the monitors are on the 3600
Two of the monitors are attached via DisplayLink
The graphics tablet is attached via usb thru DisplayPort
It took me quite a bit of maneuvering to get mint happy with all this, but I finally succeeded!
I'm wondering what kind of problems I may encounter with Fedora KDE Kinoite with all this?
For one, not at all pleased about Wayland, I used to do a /lot/ of remote gui ops via X, but that's not really a serious issue any more. However I hear some horror stories about things you cannot do in Wayland that X had no problem with, <places where things like input-remapper might balk, or when I try to deal with certain usb activities that want the pipeline before it even gets to Wayland, or things like that>
Also I hear Wayland is still not very NVidia-Friendly and so there may be some hoops to jump through there.
Assuming I manage to get past those hurdles, there are other concerns. From what I've heard, KDE gives me much more granular control over my monitors and their layout and how I can move things around and position things, including spawning programs on different desktops even, which is one of my primary goals, yet I question since Wayland is more restrictive about these things, will Wayland take that ability away?
See I'm a developer on many levels, programming simple high level stuff and even game logic in godot and unreal, plus audio work like ardour, etc etc... all the way down to tinkering with device drivers and esp32 boards and the like, so I'm looking for a system that gives me more freedom, NOT less.
Would love to hear some thoughts from y'all!
