Vivaldi won’t import anything from Chrome profiles

7.9.3970.64 (Official Build) (64-bit) , Windows 11 version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8246)

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to switch from Chrome to Vivaldi, but I’m having issues importing my Chrome profiles.

When I first installed Vivaldi and chose Chrome to import from, only a few bookmarks showed up, and they weren’t even mine. I think Vivaldi maybe defaults to some random profile or something. There was also some video open in another tab but I don't know where that came from.

When I open the "Import from Applications or Files..." menu, Vivaldi sometimes defaults to Opera instead of detecting Chrome if that is what it does normally. If I manually pick Chrome, it shows all my profiles under "User Profile", but it keeps selecting "Person 1" by default even though I don’t have a profile called that in Chrome. When I try clicking the other profiles, nothing happens and it just stays on "Person 1".

So then I tried manually selecting the actual Chrome profile folder from Google’s files (...Google\Chrome\User Data\Profile 3). Even after selecting it, the profile name above still said "Person 1" if that matters.

I clicked import and it said it worked, but nothing actually got imported. The bookmarks stayed the same default ones, history was empty, and there were no saved logins/passwords either.

The weird part is that Vivaldi says the import was successful (“History, Bookmarks, and Passwords imported successfully”), but absolutely nothing changes afterward.

The only thing I managed to import successfully was bookmarks, and I had to do that manually by exporting them from Chrome to my desktop and then importing the file into Vivaldi.

Things I already tried:

  • Fully closing Chrome (checked Task Manager too)
  • Manually selecting the profile folders
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Vivaldi
  • Removing extensions and retrying to import
  • Copying profile files into Vivaldi folders manually, but nothing happened

Has anyone else had this issue or found a fix?
