Need advice for sudden shift in behaviour

Hello everyone! It's been a good while since I've posted here. My boy has turned 1 year two weeks ago. For the past month- 2 months he's been quite sweet. Learning a lot, listening well, sorta adapting to our habits. He even sleeps upstairs with me now in bed now and then, if I'm not at home for the night, then he sleeps in his crate. Every day at 7am sharp he is awake, goes down, pees, and then naps until 8 when he gets his food.

But for the past 2-3 days we've noticed he's become a bit different. He's demanding SO much attention, literally barking and whining and pawing until we give in (which we try not to) until he starts biting blankets or other things (at which point we DO have to react). It's very strange because he's never done this before, and I try to manage this with daily training and correction and ignoring him when he wants it.

Now I came downstairs, and saw a small pee puddle, we're not sure if its him or our other dog (who is a known pee-inside boy) but seeing the height of it it might be our RR. This is the first time EVER he would've done this (even when I first got him he never did this). (But then again we're not sure if its actually him).

So I've got a question if this is normal behaviour so suddenly at 1 years old. Like I said up until now it all went quite well since his earlier puppy months. He listens, pulls less and less (though reéactivity is still high with specific dogs on walks), is calm, sleeps a lot, and has nearly no destructive behaviour.

It's not to the point of big alarms and sirens, but I just want to relay to you all what you might think of the matter before I could (accidentally) be too late to act on it. Perhaps its a passing moment and I had mistaken about the pee, and should ignore him more during the day (I'm at home often these past months) when he demands attention.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you!

Why and how did outdoors/maritime folks smoke pipe instead of cigarettes? What caused them to vanish?

I read Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage to Antarctica and noticed one of the constantly mentioned items they had with them stuck on the ice was tobacco (and, seeing the pictures, a pipe)

My wonder is how it came to be that whenever (to what I'm exposed to) I see pictures of sailors/outdoorsmen (trappers, expeditioners, etc), travelling the late 18th century and beginning 19th century prefer to smoke pipes rather than cigarettes?

It seems to me that with their constant troubles of traverse and weight, a cigarette is more practical than a pipe, pipe cleaner, tobacco, matches, etc.

Why then, as a follow-up question, did they sorta vanish from our day-to-day lives, and are things like vapes and cigarettes still here? (more common than pipe or cigar, at least where I live)

Thank you!
