Hello, in my search I have found this beautiful subreddit, I hope my post is not annoying, yet I didn’t find any other post like this.
I’ve been making stories in my head long-long ago and some time today I’ve found myself on a thought of making these stories much better, for, you know, maybe creating them in some sort of media someday and hopefully making them not bad.
And I don’t know about this all like AT ALL, I’ve did a search and… you might think from my next questions that I should’ve searched better, but like, I could’ve, but I’ve been searching all of the terminology in my native language media, and it’s not good… and the best advice there is is in the English part of media, so I want to understand the terminology in English and then search it more in my language or read it in English. So here are my questions
What is the term for like.. creating a story? How is the craft named? Is it screenwriting or maybe directing or something… what is the profession exactly called also, maybe what the course of said profession is called in an institute or college (so I could look up professional literature).
What are the books for learning the skills needed for better screenwriting or smth are the best recommended? I’ve looked quite a bit like “The screenwriter bible”, “save the cat”. I also have “manga in theory in practice” from Hirohiko Araki on sight, as he is my favourite manga author and his stories with art are honestly something else, I say this because ideally I would like to write some kind of comics so probably its a much different field. And yeah what are the like “standard” books in professional screenwriters studying, like in geology where the “General (Physical) Geology” is the base that is underlying in all of the geology-based studies.
And the last one
3. Are there differences in screenwriting in different media? Well it is different of course, but like how, is there some answer for the topic? Like, as I said, ideally I would like to make some comics and stuff so I think I should be looking at comic-esque works in the writing field, am I right? Yet still I dunno… I like imagining some king of scenes, the action, maybe some kind of basic operator skills would help… surely different media require different bases of knowledge, right?
Thanks
