We bought a house ( new build ) with Thermador built-in refrigerator (Model: T36BT925NS/25) expecting premium performance and support consistent with the brand’s reputation. Within approximately two years, the internal lighting system failed completely—something that should not happen in a high-end appliance at this price point. The real issue, however, is Thermador’s handling of the situation. Despite purchasing an extended warranty specifically to avoid out-of-pocket repairs, we spent over two weeks being passed back and forth between Thermador and the warranty provider. Each side deferred responsibility, and we were ultimately told the repair falls into a “gap” between the manufacturer warranty and the extended warranty. This is not a customer misunderstanding—it is a structural failure in Thermador’s warranty ecosystem. Customers are sold “peace of mind,” but when a real issue occurs, the system allows both the manufacturer and the warranty provider to avoid coverage.

For a premium brand under BSH Home Appliances, this is unacceptable. A lighting failure this early raises concerns about build quality, but the complete lack of accountability is far more concerning.

At this price level, customers should not be navigating loopholes between corporate entities just to get a basic repair addressed. Bottom line: You can pay for a premium Thermador appliance and an extended warranty—and still be left paying out of pocket due to how their coverage is structured.

I strongly caution prospective buyers: do not assume that extended warranty coverage with Thermador will actually protect you. Based on this experience, it clearly does not.

Thermador needs to take responsibility for how its warranty partnerships function in practice—not just how they are marketed.
