I’ve got a coworker who’s really into VPN stuff and lately he keeps trying to get me to use his custom configs instead of my current provider. I already pay for a service that works fine, so I don’t really see the point. What’s throwing me off is how persistent he is about it. Like he keeps saying it’s better, faster, more private, etc, but won’t really explain much beyond that. I’m not super technical, but it got me wondering if I did use something like that, what kind of access would the person running it actually have? Like can they see traffic, logs, or anything sensitive? Feels a bit weird to trust a random setup like that, but maybe I’m overthinking it. Anyone dealt with something similar?

I started using a VPN recently and everything seemed fine at first, but now when I check my location on certain sites, it only shows the country instead of a specific city or region. Before, it used to be more precise depending on the server I picked, so I’m not sure why it changed. Is this just how VPNs work sometimes or could something be off with the server I’m using?
